What is being done? Near Sibiu (Hermannstadt), in the heart of Romania, projects are being supported that provide access to ecological education, especially for children. For one, a greenhouse was donated to the Green Fortified Church, a cross-generational project for environmental education and ecological gardening run by the Evangelical Church of Sibiu. There, children can gain firsthand experience with various methods of organic farming and learn the basics of gardening.
In nearby Nou (Neudorf), a social center for Roma children is supported. For this purpose, the elijah Social Work organization took over and renovated the former elementary school. Since the renovation was completed in December 2013, the center has been used by Roma families, who have access to sanitary facilities and work spaces. They also receive counseling on medical and social issues.
What was successful? Hirn Herz Hand eV (Hin Heart Hand Association) supports the initiatives in Sibiu on a project basis. In 2014, for example, financial support was provided to cover the purchase of necessary equipment and materials, as well as the transport costs for the greenhouse. In Nou, the HHH Association donated a playground. In addition, 10 members of the association traveled to Sibiu in 2014 to help build the playground and greenhouse and provide additional support where needed.
